Meet the Professor for the EMCI Review and
Practice Examination Course:
Stephen V. Smith, Ph.D. is founder and principal of Engineering Leadership Development
Associates. As the founder and principal of Engineering Leadership Development
Associates, Dr. Smith provides consulting and online education/training courses to global
organizations requiring effective leadership development programs and individuals to
prepare them for leadership in technology based organizations. The most recent course
offering is for Engineering Management Certification International (EMCI), the Review
and Examination Practice Course. The course is web deliverable in two formats, self
paced and instructor led. The Course consists of eight modules that review material from
each EMCI Knowledge Domain followed by a practice examination for that Domain at the
end of the module. There is a comprehensive Final Examination at the end of the Course
drawn from all Domains that is administered in the style of the actual certification
examination. This review and practice examination course is directed to individuals who
wish to prepare for the EMCI certification examination in review of concepts and practice
questions utilizing computer testing methods with randomized questions being drawn
from a test bank
Prior to founding Engineering Leadership Development Associates, Dr. Smith was
ASSOCIATE DEAN, ONLINE AND SPECIAL PROGRAMS and the DIRECTOR of the
ENGINEERING MANAGEMENT PROGRAM. He was responsible for effective administration
and growth of off-campus and on-campus graduate engineering programs on behalf of
the College of Engineering. He established marketing campaigns and an internal
administrative system that quadrupled program enrollment and revenues. As a pioneer
and leader of web-based learning, he developed and taught the first web-based
asynchronous graduate engineering courses in College of Engineering and then led
implementation of Engineering Management and all other graduate engineering
programs into fully online degree programs in the College of Engineering, expanding
worldwide. He has mentored many faculty in distance teaching/learning techniques and
course development for online delivery. Dr. Smith currently retains a full adjunct faculty
positions at Drexel.
Prior to his role with Drexel University, Dr. Smith held managerial and executive roles in
industry in new technology development and commercialization, including international
expansion. He was Vice President - Corporate Development for National Environmental
Testing, and Planning Manager for ARCO Chemical Company. Prior to that, he
was a Design Engineer with Rohm & Haas Company. He has substantial experience in
mergers and acquisitions, venture capital finance, technology management, and
leadership of high-technology businesses. He holds a Ph.D., M.S. ChE, and B.S. ChE, all
from Drexel University.
